On August 10th, 1997, Quebec's most cherished little star passed away...

Marie Soleil Tougas grew up on television. She was my idol back then. I was like 5 years old and every thursday night I would watch my favorite show "Chop-Suey". Marie Soleil portrayed Judith. I just loved her. She was such a great actress.

Marie and this little girl I'll never forget

I grew with Marie Soleil. I admired her a lot and I watched every show she was on. The thing I admired the most about Marie is that she was devoted to children. Every year she was hosting the Telethon for Operation Enfant Soleil. She was making children happy and I remember once she visited a young girl in hospital. I remember that girl had a pink headband and she just bursted into tears in Marie Soleil's arms, she was terrified (Picture on the right, I found it). Everytime I would see Marie with children, I was crying because it was so beautiful. And on August 10th 1997, all Quebec was shattered... Marie Soleil and her boyfriend Jean Claude died in a plane crash. I couldn't believe it. My Marie, our Marie. It was impossible... I cried a lot. It wasn't the same without our beautiful and sunny Marie Soleil. Soleil is French for "Sun". Marie Soleil was a delightful, beautiful, caring and loving young woman. She was always smiling.

To you Marie, I love you and you're always in my heart. Thanks for those wonderful years. You taught me a lot. I still can't believe you're gone... "Si les anges existent, Marie en est un..." (If angels exist, Marie is one...)
